Labour Party THE literature on the rise and fall of the Liberal Party is voluminous and inconclusive. We believe it is inconclusive because it usually assumes British politics to be structurally static. We wish to suggest that changes in the structure of British politics are at least as significant as chronological developments: in other words.   The Labour party had held office only twice before, in and in , but during the war years its leadership had acquired both experience and trust. It now looked like a party .

Rother Valley, a mining community in South Yorkshire, had been in the party’s hands since ; in , the Labour candidate won it with a staggering 77 percent of the vote.   Shapurji Saklatvala was the Labour Party’s first MP of color. A largely forgotten figure today, he was a card-carrying member of the British Communist Party and champion of both colonized peoples and the global working class. Sitting awkwardly in the history of the British left, Saklatvala offers an example of an anti-imperialist parliamentarian agitating at the heart of empire.

The Labour party grandees currently reflecting on why the election went so wrong have been quick to blame Brexit. This is too easy. Brexit was both catalyst and cause. The Labour party. With the advent of a Labour Party government in , the Fabian Society was a forum for New Labour ideas and for critical approaches from across the party. The most significant Fabian contribution to Labour's policy agenda in government was Ed Balls's pamphlet, advocating Bank of Headquarters: London, England, UK.
